Bergen County Academies (BCA) was well represented at Congressman Scott Garrett’s Congressional Art Exhibition, Saturday, May 19th, at Sussex County Community College....

Works by 15 students, grades 9-12, in various media were on display. Several students and parents were present to witness the students’ works beautifully displayed and recognized, along with their teachers Miyoung Min and Mrs. Joann Onnembo. Jessica Romeo, AVPA Class of 2013, received the 7th place award for her 18" x 24" graphite rendering of "Soldier Buddies,"  a nostalgic image taken from her grandfather's photo album.

Congratulations to BCA’s 1st Place winner Michelle Guo, AAST, Class of 2013, for her mixed media painting of "Favorite Things."  Michelle's work has been shipped to Washington, D.C. and will be exhibited in the Capitol Building for one year along with other District winners from across the nation.

On June 20th, Michelle, her parents and Mrs. Onnembo will be honored in D.C. with ribbon cutting ceremonies, awards and festivities.  The Congressional Exhibit "An Artistic Discovery" may be familiar to some as being associated with Congressman Rothman, however, this year BCA opted to participate with Congressman Garrett as well.  This is the 7th time a BCA student's artwork has been hung in our nation's capital.  No other school, anywhere in the U.S. can claim that distinction.

Faculty advisor: Mrs. Joann Onnembo
