Heroes and Cool Kids:
Heroes and Cool Kids is a program
that was started by Bruce Harper formerly of the NY Jets in 1998. This unique
program teaches high school athletes to be role models for the elementary
school children in their neighborhood, who truly look up to them. The
objective of this program is to educate our students in the area of drug and
alcohol prevention. Our chosen students are trained in how to communicate
with the younger students as to the dangers of alcohol and drugs and how to
resist peer pressure. When the training sessions are completed, our students,
along with a few professional athletes that are supplied by the program, then present
the program to the sixth grade class at The Lincoln School in Englewood.
The students visit the elementary school students three times throughout the
year while receiving useful information at a series of conferences they attend
which are run by Bruce Harper and his staff of professional athletes.
Heroes and Cool Kids apply in their sophomore year and if accepted must
maintain a high level of ethical and academic standards to maintain active in
the club.
