Frosh Soph Law Debate
A very dynamic annual Bergen Tech Freshmen Sophomore Law & Justice Debate was held on May 14th.

The debate topic was: whether the federal government can legislatively prohibit parents from using genetic engineering to design their own offspring. The Freshmen were ably represented by Melissa Giangrande, Marlon De Assis, Ejona Murataj, Michael Tobass and Jennifer Strycharz. The talented Sophomore team consisted of Aarti Patel, Adam Kirsch, Natalia Mata, Paige Forsthoff and Kira Kaur.

The students debated a controversial and complicated topic. Both sides included well researched arguments in the areas of law, biology, ethics, history and ecology. Presentations were clear, well organized, factual and relevant. The debaters were extremely poised.

After deliberation by the judges - - Ms. Sheridan and Mrs. Jacobs - - the Sophomores were declared the winners by a very slight margin. Many thanks to Mr. Faehndrich and Ms. Moline for giving the students lessons in genetics to assist with the debate.
We are all looking forward to next year's debate.

Advisor: Mrs. Allard
