BCA Principals MessageIt may be winter out, but inside the Academy's walls, the heat is on! It was great to see so many of you at the January PPO meeting, especially on the occasion of summer arriving at BCA - in a manner of speaking. The upstairs dining hall was bursting at the seams with the hustle and bustle of information gathering and brochure collecting regarding the many summertime opportunities that exist for your children.![]()
Summer is a great time for young people to demonstrate what is truly important to them. Taking a science course, learning in another country, or lending a helping hand in the community speak clearly to a student’s readiness for new experiences and a willingness to learn new things, even when school is not in session. At the PPO meeting I shared the fact that recently we were chosen by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top high schools in America. Naturally we are thrilled to be thought of so highly – public recognition of BCA’s accomplishments speaks to the talent and energies of our inspiring student body. But this is not the only recent feather in our cap… I am proud to announce that seven of our students have just become semi-finalists in the Intel Science and Talent Search. To put this news in perspective, you should know that there are only three schools in the Nation that had more semi-finalists, thus we are proud of our student researchers and their faculty mentors. I will be extending my personal congratulations to each of these accomplished scholars and their teachers who provided unlimited support. Last Thursday’s Class of 2013 Pasta Dinner was also a tremendous success. It was a pleasure to meet so many of you and welcome you personally to our community. With the New Year we also welcome Dr. Lerner to his new role as Acting Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Lerner served as Assistant Superintendent for the past 3 1/2 years where he supervised The Bergen County Technical and Special Services School Districts with over 40 sites. Prior to accepting his position in Bergen County, Dr. Lerner worked for the Wayne Township Public Schools as the Director of Special Services and subsequently Assistant Superintendent of that district. Dr. Lerner’s career began in the NYC Public Schools where much of his time was spent as a Supervisor in the Brooklyn High School Superintendent’s office. We wish Dr. Lerner well in his new role and congratulate him on his appointment.
