Selin Ocal, a senior at Bergen County Academies, has spent many hours in school educating fellow students about what it is like to be Muslim as well as planning events that promote cultural, racial and socioeconomic tolerance among students.

For their work to promote diversity and fight Islamophobia, Nour and Selin, both 17, received certificates of accomplishment last month from the Princeton Prize in Race Relations Committee of Northern New Jersey. The certificates were presented at a ceremony in Newark.

The $1,000 prize itself went to Shawn Ohzauruike, a student at the Delbarton School in Morristown, who led initiatives that have spurred classmates to confront race and class within the school.
