Paramus Campus Work-Related Opportunities

BCTS, Paramus offers vocational and technical work related opportunities for their high school students. The full-time option is designed for students with learning disabilities and provides future career choices within their technical area. The shared-time program provides the opportunity for their students to gain vocational experience in various career areas while they continue to complete academic requirements at their local high schools. During their internships, students gain confidence that they can succeed in the workplace. The following workplace opportunities exist in our technical programs:

    Full-time Option

Transition Services provides for an interactive career-based partnership, in collaboration with the student’s Case Manager, beginning with their junior year and continuing throughout their senior year. This seamless transition is to increase the student’s knowledge and skills in a work-related technical area. Job Coaches assist students in making a successful transition from school to adult life, including employment, post-secondary education options and community living. The following services and forms are provided to our students: job shadowing; internships; industry tours; mentoring; work-site modification; travel training, self-advocacy skills; and linkages with adult support services. Students are assigned workplace mentors who demonstrate, model and explain work related knowledge and skills. Shared-time Option The Structured Learning Experience/Cooperative Ed Coordinator provides individual, group and technical area based meetings beginning with their junior year and continuing throughout their senior year. The Coordinator assists with information and opportunities regarding paid/non-paid internships; Pre-Apprentice Programs and Youth Transition To Work (YTTW). The following services are provided to the students in conjunction with the share-time guidance counsellor as well as the technical teachers: job shadowing; internships; co-ops; and interviewing, resume building and job placement skills. Students have the option here of working one or two days per week. These opportunities give seniors a unique opportunity to apply their technical preparation to "real world" situations in business and industry.
