Writing achievements decided over the summer have arrived. Despite the many challenges this year, Bergen County Academies (BCA) has some great accomplishments to report:

  • Catherine Park and Katherine Vandermel were both accepted into Aerie International—as the title suggests, this is an international publication of young writing
  • Katherine Vandermel was a finalist in Fiction in Columbia College Chicago’s Young Authors Writing Competition
  • BCA also took in a slew of wins in the Bergen County High School Writing Contest:
    • Catherine Park won 3rd place in Scholarly Essay
    • Katherine Vandermel won 2nd place in Personal Essay
    • Amelie Caceres won 2nd place, and Lindsey Polevoy won Honorable Mention in Drama
    • BCA nearly swept the Short Story category, as Katherine Vandermel won 1st place, Sylvie Adams won 2nd, and Ye Zin Cho took Honorable Mention
    • And BCA DID sweep the Poetry category, with Elena Pardo in 1st, Rio Matsumoto in 2nd, Sophie Han in 3rd and Grace Yang taking Honorable Mention
  • And finally (as if the above weren’t enough already), Katherine Vandermel is a 2020 Davidson Fellow in Literature (the ONLY winner in Literature), which has earned her a $25,000 scholarship

Great Job everyone!
